Responsibilities
- Synthesize compounds for testing as antiviral agents against key Pharmasset biological targets.
- Analyze analytical data to ensure the identity and integrity of synthesized molecules.
- Analyze biological data to be able to participate in decisions on direction of medicinal chemistry effort within the lab.
- Present research results at chemistry and project team meetings.
- Participate in the preparation of patents and publications.
- Maintain awareness of new research results in the field of organic synthesis.
- Maintain awareness of research in the field of medicinal chemistry and current findings in area of research focus, as well as work being done by competitor labs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of experiments and research results
- Develop and present new ideas for review and consideration by supervisor.
- Perform related duties, special projects and/or other functions as required.
- Analyze analytical data to ensure the identity and integrity of synthesized molecules.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or bioorganic chemistry.
- Minimum of 2-5 years experience in a drug discovery organization required.
- Possess strong small molecule synthetic organic chemistry skills, with the ability to independently plan and execute synthetic approaches to target molecules.
- Demonstrated track record of scientific accomplishments through publications and patents.
- Experience with modern analytical methods for purification and structural characterization of small molecules and the use of instrumentation to accomplish such (NMR, IR, LCMS, HPLC, automated flash chromatography).
- Experience with parallel synthesis and automated purification a plus.
- Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to problems.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to work in a dynamic research environment.
- Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Solid computer skills including working knowledge of electronic tools for searching scientific literature.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgement, be well organized, take initiative, be flexible, work well under pressure and produce accurate and timely work.
