• Synthesize compounds for testing as antiviral agents against key Pharmasset biological targets.
• Analyze analytical data to ensure the identity and integrity of synthesized molecules.
• Analyze biological data to be able to participate in decisions on direction of medicinal chemistry effort within the lab.
• Present research results at chemistry and project team meetings.
• Participate in the preparation of patents and publications.
• Maintain awareness of new research results in the field of organic synthesis.

• BS/MS in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or bioorganic chemistry.
• Minimum of 2-5 years experience in a drug discovery organization required.
• Possess strong small molecule synthetic organic chemistry skills, with the ability to independently plan and execute synthetic approaches to target molecules.
• Demonstrated track record of scientific accomplishments through publications and patents.
• Experience with modern analytical methods for purification and structural characterization of small molecules and the use of instrumentation to accomplish such (NMR, IR, LCMS, HPLC, automated flash chromatography).
• Experience with parallel synthesis and automated purification a plus.
• Ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to problems.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to work in a dynamic research environment.
• Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
• Solid computer skills including working knowledge of electronic tools for searching scientific literature.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgement, be well organized, take initiative, be flexible, work well under pressure and produce accurate and timely work.
